Smart use of Social Media and SEO
Unlocking Online Success: Harnessing the Power of Your Website and Social Media
Having a website is great. When done correctly it allows you to keep the attention of your audience longer, and at the same time gain the “trust” of Google so your site will get indexed better each time you add new content. Eventually, people will find you easily and your visitors will increase without any effort from your side.
Social Media is a bit harder to maintain. You need to “entertain” your followers more regularly and platforms like Facebook, Youtube and especially Instagram have limits on how you do this. However, social media is a very valuable tool to “advertise” your website and cannot be ignored.
Conversion
What we typically want is “conversion” just like a physical store. We want somebody to notice us, get interested, get in, and keep them inside until they buy something.
SEO
“Search Engine Optimisation” is the way you make your content attractive for the Google Search Engine to get you listed high so people can find you easily. A blog or products are very effective.
When writing content for your site, you should always bear in mind that your post or page should be answering a question. Sometimes it is a difficult approach when you want to get your thoughts “out there”, but it is well worth it to put yourself in the mind of somebody who would be searching for your content. What would be their question to Google, and how would Google find your content as an answer? It’s a little bit like the American Game show “Jeopardy!”
Social Media
Conversion also happens on social media. A view can become a like, or even a follower. Super important, however, we are still far off from the type of conversion that we really want to achieve…. A buying customer and then a returning customer!
This basically doesn’t happen on social media, never forget this. It’s good to gain followers and extend your fan base, but make sure you don’t lose sight of what’s most important.
You have a website. Now what?
It would be best if you got visitors as soon as possible. If you have a new website good content helps but it will take some time to get high Google rankings, so Social Media is your best friend in the beginning. Make posts about your website and link them to your homepage or specific blog or product page.
See below a top-5 of rules on how to use social media if you have a website:
Every social media post must link to your website, a blog on your site, or a product on your site.
Any post you make without a link to your website is a missed opportunity to sell.
Never make posts linking to other social media. This is entirely useless.
Cucumber time? Make a new blog on your website, or sell a product with a discount and post about that.
Don’t post too often similar content. Stay original.
About Cucumber Time…
The Dutch Expression “Komkommertijd” (in English “Silly season”) was used for a dull season for journalists when they didn’t have anything newsworthy to write. To fill the gaps in the newspapers they would post the daily prices of cucumbers.
A website with blogs and products will ensure you never have a “Silly season” or “Cucumber time” to keep your followers entertained. Just repost an old blog or discount an existing product.
